- Battered women’s groups
- Numerous veterans golf tournaments
- Cultural presentations
- Chamber of Commerce events
- School athletic and extracurricular programs

In an act of kindness to demonstrate God’s love in a practical way, Lake Oconee Dentistry was pleased to sponsor an event for the first time in 2010 called Dentistry From The Heart. Joined by numerous volunteers, the Team at Lake Oconee Dentistry performed approximately $30,000 in free dental treatment on Friday, May 21, 2010. Patients began registering for the event by 6:00 a.m. Undaunted by heavy rain and struggling to hold an umbrella in one hand and soggy paperwork in another, more than 100 people braved the elements to take advantage of free dental services, including cleanings, extractions, and fillings. The first patient of the day began driving by the office at 3:30 a.m. to see if an early line was forming.
Doctors David and Patti Bradley were joined by their Associate, Dr. Phil Boswell, and Dr. David Miller from Lake Oconee Oral Surgery and Implant Center, Dr. Bob McGuinn from Athens and Lake Oconee Dentistry’s own hygienists, dental assistants and other volunteers from a variety of businesses and organizations.
Lakeside Church’s Assistant Pastor, Jay Thompson, in charge of community and connection, welcomed the crowd with the aroma of grilled hotdogs for lunch. A group of volunteers from St. Vincent DePaul took shifts at the registration area, and reps from dental equipment suppliers were floating helping hands. The persistent rain kept patients huddled together under umbrellas, hooded sweatshirts, and blankets. New friends and acquaintances were made at this innovative event.
While the rain fell outside, things were humming inside. When one patient was finished and the suite and instruments were sterilized, another person was immediately called inside for treatment. Any outsider could witness a rhythmic, smooth flow of patients entering and exiting all day long with a full reception area as people moved from the tented area to the second stage of their care.
As a first for the lake area, Lake Oconee Dentistry was pleased to perform a much-needed service for the community and hopes to make it an annual event.
Dentistry From The Heart is a non-profit organization which began in 2001 by Dr. Vincent Monticciolo of New Port Richey, Florida. More than 12,000 patients nationally and in Canada were served in 2009 at events like the one sponsored by Lake Oconee Dentistry.
